A Special School with Special Education

Winston is a place to Succeed

One of the most important things to understand about learning is that not every child learns at the same pace or in the same way as another child. Some children do better in smaller settings, some need a different kind of pace and structure and some children just need more time and space to develop. So, if you believe your child needs a better, more intimate environment or has a learning disability or learning disorder such as dyslexia, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and needs special education from a dedicated team of special teachers, then The Winston School may be the right school for your child.

Unlike many independent schools in California, Winston's unique program for grades 5-12 allows for challenging academic work to be undertaken with the help of counselors, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists who work seamlessly with classroom teachers to ensure a successful elementary, middle and high school experience. Academic classes emphasize skill building and readily available technology helps accommodate diverse learning styles.

A strong commitment to the visual arts, music, drama, and computer graphics and animation complements the academic program and provides many students with a clear professional direction after graduation. Clubs and activities, including yoga, gardening, debate, jewelry-making, sound-track writing and recording, and intramural sports help students to round out their school program. Community service projects are offered both on- and off-campus. Opportunities to gain work experience and learn about the world of business, government and the professions afford additional insights to students as they identify and nurture their strengths. Recent graduates have attended Dartmouth College, California State University Long Beach, Whittier College and Fashion Careers College. Our goal is to bring the potential out of every child and to give him or her an opportunity to lead a great life.
